SBS BIOL10401 Practical Laboratory Science team led by Ruth Grady – (School of Biological Sciences)

The difficulties of Covid-19 and its impact on face to face teaching was felt particularly strongly by subject areas requiring physical activity and labs, which was exactly the issue faced by the Practical Laboratory Science unit team. Despite limitations, they overcame all challenges and created an interactive and engaging online delivery programme.

Familiarizing students with lab equipment is difficult when normal labs are cancelled due to social distancing. However, the team got together to organise a stand-alone extended lab session with strict social distancing adherence in the midst of the Covid crisis, which according to student feedback was a massively appreciated effort. Alongside this, they created comprehensive video support content, which allowed students to get a more in-depth understanding of lab practices than they could otherwise have acquired from reading guides.
