Fatima Malik (School of Health Sciences)
Fatima's submission detailed her work to incorporate inclusive education within Optometry whilst improving pass rates for by 30% or more for core competency assessments within clinics & OSCEs. She introduced novel wellbeing session into the Optometry Welcome Week activities for third years which has helped increase student awareness and self-management of exam related stress and anxiety. Fatima organised a CPD afternoon for staff which has become an annual event in the Optometry calendar. She has delivered lectures on reflective practice and cultivating psychological safety in clinical learning environments to help increase students sense of belonging & inclusion, to staff and externally to Optometrists at the Manchester Royal Eye Hospital and Masters placement providers. Her advocacy for faith based needs of students has made meaningful impacts for student wellbeing and ability to engage in sessions whilst reducing disruptions to patient facing clinics. Having been invited to join the Faculty's Professionalism Partnership Group, she is incorporating her resources into the Professionalism Toolkit for wider benefit.
