Approval of cross-school or cross-faculty programmes
Where a programme draws on multiple disciplines from within a single school, the standard approval processes will apply. However, where programmes draw on disciplines that cross schools or cross faculties, additional consultations and approvals are required.
Evidence of approval may be in the form of:
- Multiple signatures on pro-formas
- Letter/memo/email of support from Head of School or Associate Dean, as appropriate
- Minutes of an appropriate committee meeting
Cross-school proposals within a single faculty
For programmes being developed across schools in the same faculty, approval in principle (NPP1) and full approval (NPP2) must be obtained from all schools involved.
The following aspects must be discussed and approved by all schools involved:
- Income and costs to each school (to be demonstrated in the financial modelling)
- Resources to be provided by each school. Additional resources to be identified and approved in the Resources Form.
- Administrative arrangements for programme management to be recorded in NPP2.
Cross-faculty programmes
For programmes being developed across more than one faculty, a lead-faculty should be identified.
Approval in principle and full approval must be obtained from all schools involved at both the approval in principle stage and at the full approval stage. In addition, the lead faculty must obtain evidence of approval in principle and full approval of the process from other faculties involved.
For approval in principle, all faculty committees should consider the NPP1. At this stage, two internal advisers will be appointed from the lead-faculty and one adviser from each of the other faculties involved (committee Chair or nominee) to assist with the iterative development of the proposal documentation.
For consideration of full approval, the lead-faculty will inform the Chairs of the other faculty committees that their internal advisers have made a recommendation for approval. It is at the discretion of those Chairs as to whether or not they wish to review the documentation if they have not already done so. A report will be made to non-lead faculty committees that the proposals are being recommended for approval at the lead-faculty committee.
It is the responsibility of the lead Faculty to inform the Teaching and Learning Delivery team (TLD) and other University offices of the approval.
