Degree Regulations and Apprenticeships
This page contains the University’s taught degree regulations, which are the overarching documents to all taught policies, procedures and guidance. It also houses our apprenticeship documents for students on degree apprenticeship programmes. The consultation for these policies and procedures will take place in the 2029/30 academic year.
Undergraduate Degree Regulations
The Undergraduate Degree Regulations define the structure and requirements of the University’s undergraduate awards. Students might wish to refer to these Degree Regulations to understand how their marks aretaken into account and what happens when things don’t go quite as planned (for example, how the compensation and reassessment rules work).
Postgraduate Taught Degree Regulations
The Postgraduate Degree Regulations define the structure and requirements of the University’s postgraduate taught awards. Students might wish to refer to these Degree Regulations to understand how their marks are taken into account and what happens when things don’t go quite as planned (for example, how the compensation and reassessment rules work).
Policy for Delivery Subcontracting
This Policy for Delivery Subcontracting sets out the requirement for subcontracting provision for degree and higher apprenticeships delivered across the University. This policy adheres to the Education and Skills Funding Agency (ESFA) rules. This policy covers procurement and contracting, quality assurance, declaration of use of sub-contractors and payment terms.
Process of Approval for Degree Apprenticeships
This document sets out the process of approval for degree apprenticeship programmes in line with the current University process of new programme approval.
Procedure on Break-In Learning for Apprentices
This procedure sets out the process for how to respond and manage cases when an apprentice wishes to take a break in learning. This document should be read in conjunction with the University’s Policy on Mitigating Circumstances and Coursework Extensions and Policy on Interruptions.
Policy on Ethical Approval of Research in Taught Assessment
The University’s policy on ethical approval for research on human subjects is conducted as part of taught programme assessments and sets guidelines to ensure consistent ethical standards. It applies to research projects that occur outside direct staff supervision such as reports, projects and dissertations by undergraduate and postgraduate students.
The policy offers a structured process for ethical approval and risk assessment to ensure safe and responsible research practices.
Procedures for the Award of Posthumous and Aegrotat UG and PGT Degrees
This policy outlines the process for awarding degrees to undergraduate or postgraduate students unable to complete their studies due to death or terminal illness. Posthumous degrees are granted with family approval if sufficient coursework has been completed. Aegrotat degrees are offered to students whose illness prevents completion of their course.
University Peer Review of Teaching
The Peer Review of Teaching (PRT) policy establishes a structured framework to support and evaluate teaching quality across the university. It involves reviewers assessing teaching performance through direct observation and review of course material. PRT aims to enhance teaching standards by promoting good practice, enhancing educational standards and supporting staff development. The policy integrates outcomes into performance reviews, contributes to career progression, and encourages continuous improvement.
