May 2022 TLD Bulletin

1. Staffing updates

We are pleased to welcome two new starters in the Programme Enhancement team of Teaching and Learning Delivery:

  • Angela Entwistle: Teaching and Learning Officer (Programme Enhancement)
  • Rebecca Tyson: Teaching and Learning Officer (Programme Enhancement)

2. Scheduling (Timetabling and Examinations)

  • Semester 2 examinations

Semester 2 examinations begin on Monday 23 May until Friday 10 June.  This duration covers all on campus examinations and in addition any remote examinations that Faculties are supporting.  Although the Scheduling team do not support ‘remote’ examinations operationally, the timetable for all examinations regardless of on campus and or remote is developed and provided via the team.

All on campus examinations are fully co-ordinated and operationally supported by the team for both paper and e-assessment examinations.

This includes venue set up, exam paper provision, invigilation, security of the exam and prompt return as appropriate for schools to progress marking etc.  Many areas fully collaborate to ensure successful completion of exams by our students including school assessment colleagues, estates colleagues, academic leads, casual invigilators, DASS, IT, e-learning colleagues and external support in our printing provision.

Semester 2 is the first time we are not operating from North Campus, and all delivery is centralised via main campus (Oxford road area), Sugden Sports Centre and Armitage Sports Centre.

There is a marked increase in both e-assessment delivery mode which will see all computer clusters in use during the Semester, including the new clusters in MECD Engineering Building and support for our DASS registered students especially with adjustments to service their individual learning plans.

There will be a lot of activity on campus, and students will be very new to the on campus experience, which may add to their anxieties.  It is everyone’s remit to support our students during this very critical period in their journey, and we all have a part to play when on campus no matter what role we are, even if it is as simple as signposting students where you may see them looking slightly confused as to where they are going but absolutely being smiling, welcoming and acknowledging their presence on campus and making them feel supported.
