Information Technology

A number of policies are available regarding Information Technology at the School of Arts, Languages and Cultures.

IT Services Computer Provision

The University IT Service operates a 'one device' policy. All staff & postgraduate researchers are entitled to one computer only. You can find more information here: Computers funded by IT Services (The University of Manchester)

For Professional Services staff, speak to your line manager about ordering your device. For Academic staff, contact your departmental administrator for further information.

Log an IT issue with Connect Portal

If you have any IT issues, you can log a job on the Connect Portal, or call IT services on 0161 306 5544.

Media Services / CTS issues

If you have any issues in CTS rooms throughout campus, please contact Media Services. It is best to contact them at the point of issue, as they can offer immediate help.

Printers

The School does not provide desktop printers or ink cartridges for existing non-Xerox devices.

Please make use of Xerox printers within our buildings. Below are the locations of Xerox printers managed by the School Operations Team. There are more printers throughout the rest of campus in PC clusters.

IT peripherals and small hardware items

To enable you to work safely and comfortably at your desk, the School can provide the IT equipment listed in the SALC IT equipment catalogue.

For Professional Services staff, please contact compliance.salc@manchester.ac.uk

For Academic staff, please contact your departmental administrator.

Loan laptops

The School Operations team in A6 have a limited number of loan laptops for use on a temporary basis. Please contact lisa.good@manchester.ac.uk or sofy.lam@manchester.ac.uk if you need to use these.

Please note that we cannot lend out individual chargers, and you will be required to provide an account code if there is any damage caused to the equipment.

Phonelines / Teams Voice

Due to the end of life of BT copper phone lines, the University made the decision to replace landline phones with Teams Voice. You can find out all about the project, including how-to guides and FAQs here
