Sustainability
This link to this film is included in acknowledgement of work in progress - technically and in terms of our own learning about working with local communities. The film focuses on the experiences of 'over-researched communities' in our closest neighbourhoods. However, reflecting so many of the issues that accompany time-limited funding for participatory research projects, we created the film at pace to meet a spending deadline. This that meant we didn't leave enough time for dialogue about the narrative with those involved. As a result, it replicated some of the extractive practices that have done so much harm to relationships with community partners in the past and resulted in a film that was unsatisfactory for all involved.
Acknowledging the issues above, we are not sharing that film but are instead working with the associated community members to produce a film that gives space to their voices and experiences and which should be required viewing for anyone seeking to engage with them.
With thanks to Tina Cribbin, Dr Niamh Kavanagh, Professor Diana Miltlin and the residents of Hopton Court and Fulton Court for their support with this project to date.
