Pure Portal project (PPP)
Following approval from the Research Lifecycle Programme, The Directorate of Research and Business Engagement (RBE) and IT Services are leading a project to upgrade the existing portal product at the University, which forms part of the Pure software. The portal product is currently used to showcase a wide variety of research information and supports the creation of researcher profiles for research staff and postgraduate research (PGR) students via the Research Explorer (https://research.manchester.ac.uk/en/) pages on the University’s corporate website.
The project has been constituted following a requirements gathering exercise conducted as part of RLP Project E, Networking and Collaboration. The PPP forms one sub-project which aims to support some of the overall objectives including -
- Improve our ability to build and manage research communities
- Understand and present our research capabilities both internally and externally
The project will deliver a modern, accessible and user-friendly interface for a wide range of stakeholders to use to search and discover research expertise at the University. It will continue to provide a mechanism by which researchers and PGR students can build, maintain and showcase their research externally via the University’s corporate website.
As with the original implementation of researcher profiles, it is necessary to engage with a range of stakeholders across Professional Services (PS) including the Library, IT Services, Marketing and Communications as well as with teams within the Faculties, and with a range of academic and student representatives.
The project has been working with stakeholders across the University to ensure that the new portal will provide functions and features to support our users.
New features include fingerprinting, an image gallery, Google Scholar indexing, the ability to tag content related to one of the UN SDGs and support for embedded video content on publications.
Preview summer 2022
A preview of the upgrade will be available during Summer 2022 into semester one 22/23. This will be an opportunity for all users to view their new profile before they go live at the end of 2022. Access links will be circulated to all users who wish to be involved.
Training and guidance provisions are being reviewed to provide an updated suite of training options to users. These will be made available before the upgrade goes live and will continue after this period. Users can access this via the Pure support pages and this will be communicated to all users. Find out more about the preview here.
