Help and support
See below further information to help you use the Board Scorecard reports and datasets.
Please be advised that due to ongoing cyber-incident mitigation work, response times may be longer than usual.
Access the Scorecard
If you previously had access to the Board Scorecard metrics, this should remain as before.
If you launch the Power BI App and don’t see any content (i.e. no reports appear on the left-hand side) - you will need to request access.
To request access:
- Go to the IT Support Portal
- On the form, select "Access to one or more reporting areas" in the dropdown menu
- Tick the report(s) you wish to access (all these report names start with "Scorecard")
Access a dataset
Analysts can request access to the dataset that was used to create a report, so you can use it to build your own reports.
Check if you already have access:
- Open Power BI. Click "Get Data"
- Click the Power Platform menu, then select "Power BI Dataset"
- Click "Connect"
- Choose the dataset you require from the Production (Data Maturity) Environment, e.g. "OfS TEF B3"
- Click "Connect"
If this returns blank, that means you don’t currently have access.
To request access:
- Go to the IT Support Portal
- On the form, select "Request access to a certified dataset to build a report"
- Select the dataset you require (all the names start with "Scorecard" in the list)
Request a new report
We will gradually make more Scorecard reports available throughout 2023. There are also other reports available in the Power BI reporting catalogue - please check first if any of these fulfil your requirements.
If you can't locate the report you require, or you would like to request an additional report:
- One-off request: Fill out this online form
- Multiple requests: Download this spreadsheet, complete the "Form" sheet and email it to business.intelligence@manchester.ac.uk. The team will review the request and contact you ASAP to discuss.
Give feedback or report a problem
If you want to suggest improvements to the Scorecard, or flag any inconsistencies in the data, calculations, measures etc.: please fill out this form.
If you have a technical issue (error messages, data not pulling through, long loading times, etc.):
- Log into IT Support Portal
- On the form, select "Report an issue"
- We will review the issue and either resolve it (if possible) or contact you for further information

Data security in the Board Scorecard
Reports: Users should not see any personal data in the reports, as it has been aggregated. We have also hidden any sensitive fields below counts of five (e.g. ethnicity, disability) to prevent identification of any individuals.
Datasets: When requesting access to a dataset, Analysts are required to read and agree to the conditions of use. This requires that Analysts complete the mandatory Data Protection training, only access data from a University-owned device, and do not share any data externally. This process has been endorsed by the Information Governance Office - we will continue to review it, to ensure it remains robust and personal data is protected.
