Resolving issues at work
We want our University to be a great place to work and encourage all our people to behave well towards one another and reflect our values.
We are committed to developing and maintaining constructive relationships and promote an environment where colleagues are supported and able to perform at their best.
We recognise however that differences and disagreements do arise and the ability to discuss these openly and respectfully is essential to the wellbeing of our people. We aim to provide colleagues with a reasonable and prompt opportunity to resolve any issues or concerns at work to secure constructive and lasting solutions.
Issues at work can be anything that you feel is unfair or unjust such as: work environment, opportunities for career progression, the way you have been managed, relationship breakdown, bullying, harassment, or discrimination.
From a manager’s perspective, this could include concerns about an employee’s performance, conduct, or absence.
In the first instance, we encourage colleagues to consider informal solutions such as mediation to resolve their issue. Speak to your line manager, a member of the Employee Relations team, or your People & OD Partner for advice.
