Review and create vacancy

When an existing post becomes vacant or a new post is required, the line manager should review the role before proceeding with recruitment. They can then create the vacancy in Jobtrain and send it for local approval.

When reviewing the role before recruitment, managers should consider:

  • How will the post help deliver your operational and strategic plan, and contribute to your team’s current and future needs
  • Is the current job description and person specification accurate and suitable
  • Are any changes required to the post duties, work hours or reporting lines
  • Could this be a career development opportunity for current colleagues
  • Is the post required full- or part-time, and could it be eligible for flexible and/or hybrid working
  • What are the non-negotiable occupational requirements for candidates
  • Feedback from the colleague vacating the post (if applicable)
