Trade Union Negotiating Group
The Trade Union Negotiating Group (TUNG) is the formal body by which the University undertakes its requirement to undertake meaningful collective communication, consultation and negotiation with the recognised campus Unions, UNISON, UCU and UNITE.
- Communication: This involves sharing information. For instance, it could be a briefing about strategic planning matters like the University’s budget or major development projects.
- Consultation: The University and Union representatives work together to discuss mutual concerns. An example would be statutory consultations related to organisational changes or TUPE transfers.
- Negotiation: This process involves dialogue between the University and Union representatives. They discuss collective workplace issues, such as pay and employment terms, aiming to reach an agreement. For instance, this could apply to discipline and grievance procedures.
Matters negotiated nationally are not the subject of local discussion except as questions of interpretation over which the University has discretion.
The Trade Union Negotiating Group normally meets three times a year.
