Leading at Manchester

The aim of Leading at Manchester is to build the leadership capability of established managers and individual contributors to inspire, influence and develop others to deliver high performance within their area of responsibility.

This 6-month programme is for experienced managers and senior specialists looking to develop their leadership capability in their role at The University of Manchester. The audience for this programme may include, but not be limited to:

  • Academics, researchers, and senior professionals required to influence and deliver results through others; and
  • Established managers who lead academics, senior technical professionals and other managers.

Leading for Research Fellows

Leading for Research Fellows is a 6 month development programme involving face-to-face events and 6 key virtual modules on a range of leadership topics relevant to the role of Research Fellows.

Working together with other Fellows facing similar challenges in the workplace, the programme enables delegates to come together and consider their leadership style, how they interact with others, develop techniques to help them build collaboration and develop their leadership capabilities.

Managing at Manchester

The aim of Managing at Manchester is to develop the capability and confidence of first line managers or people new to management, to be able to direct, engage and support individuals and teams to deliver results.

Managing at Manchester is aimed at colleagues in a line management role, and we select applicants based on the fact they are in a current management role or have a date to commence a new management role in the very near future.

Managing at Manchester for Researchers

Managing at Manchester for Researchers is a 6 month programme for colleagues on a research contract who are line managing in their current role or who wish to do so in the future either inside or outside academia. It provides the opportunity for our research community to develop management knowledge and skills in their current role or for a future career.

“We are hugely fortunate to be part of an organisation that understands the value of learning for its staff as well as its students, so we continue to benefit from a really broad range of opportunities to learn something new or build further on existing strengths.”
