Researcher Development Framework
An international competency framework to develop world class researchers.
The RDF is a very useful professional development tool that outlines the knowledge, behaviours and attributes of successful researchers. You can use it to identify gaps in your researcher skill set and areas where you want to excel. This can be done either on your own or in discussions with your PI and/or mentor who can help you identify career advancement opportunities.
The RDF was developed by Vitae using empirical data from interviews with diverse researchers at all career stages up to professor level. The RDF divides the characteristics of excellent researchers into 4 domains which are broken down into 12 sub domains and 63 descriptors.
