Museum Meets: A sustainable future for Manchester - Transport

The first in a series of free discussion events for adults will take place on Tuesday, 30 April (6-8pm) at The Manchester Museum.
The Faculty of Life Sciences and The Manchester Museum are hosting a series of discussion events exploring the development of a sustainable future for Manchester.
These events will bring together experts from outside the university and academic researchers to present the pertinent issues, ideas and solutions surrounding transport, clothing, housing, biodiversity and food.
All the events will take place on Tuesdays (6-8pm), beginning with:
30 April: Transport with Simon Warburton, Transport for Greater Manchester
In line with Government policies on climate change, the impact of public transport as a vital community service is pertinent to addressing the issue of protecting the environment.
Working towards reducing local air pollution, Simon Warburton will discuss the development of transport plans across Greater Manchester, demonstrating the steps taken to reduce carbon emissions and the programmes put in place to promote the environmental advantages of public transport.
Also considering the pertinent issues and ideas surrounding transport and sustainability, the following speakers will discuss the last decade of the institution’s sustainable travel plan, reflecting on the successes, challenges and future proposals:
- Dr Graeme Sherriff, Research Associate Manchester Architecture Research Centre
- Dr. Conor Walsh, Research Associate at Tyndall Centre for Climate Change Research
- Andrew Hough, Sustainable Travel Planner for the University
