IT Services Research Lead appointed
11 Apr 2013
Ian Cottam has just been appointed to this new role within IT Services.
Ian will be focusing on how IT Services can best support the activities of researchers across the University. This will involve pulling together the many separate activities which different teams in IT Services currently provide, so that we can make it easier for any researcher to engage with us. He will also be looking at best practice ways of supporting researchers and what new services they may require from us.
“I am really pleased to have appointed Ian to this pivotal position”, says Paul Hopkins, Interim Director of IT Services. “He has the right background, skills and appetite to tackle this challenging role”.
Ian has spent many years in a variety of roles within the University, from his first position as an academic in Computer Science to a Researcher in the Business School, as well as with IT Services in the Faculty of Engineering and Physical Sciences.
Ian says: “Many academics contributed to recent e-infrastructure and research support debates, which resulted in IT Services publishing: Providing Effective IT Support for Research, and I see it as part of my job to get these service improvements implemented as quickly as possible”.
Any researcher who would like to discuss his/her needs should feel free to contact Ian, ideally by email on:
