Research opportunities in Myanmar (Burma)

Information session for colleagues from all Faculties on Wednesday, 10 April (12.30 to 2pm) in the Hanson Room, Humanities Bridgeford Street.

Dr Celia Russell and Geo-Metadata Development Officer, Yin Tun, both based in Mimas, have recently returned from a British Council scoping mission in Myanmar (Burma) and plan to update interested academics with their findings.

They will hold an information session on Wednesday, 10 April, where they will report on the specific research and teaching collaborations proposed by the universities they visited.

From archaeology to zoology, via midwifery and quantum dots, the opportunities cut across all faculties. With few university websites, email systems or bank accounts, they will also give a brief overview of the processes, red tape and endless communication issues, as well as sources of help and support.

This meeting also aims to create a network of contacts, to enable sharing of existing links and experiences and to create an opportunity to discuss a way forward for improving university engagement in Myanmar.

An invitation is extended to colleagues from all faculties who have an existing research interest in the country, or wish to find out more about developing a partnership.

There are few financial resources available within Myanmar itself, but sources of international funding are available and the potential research rewards exceptional.

Coffee will be served and you are welcome to bring along your own lunch.
