Graphene film premieres in Cannes

14 Mar 2013

A new film telling the story of wonder material graphene has been unveiled at MIPIM, the world’s leading international property show in Cannes.

‘Graphene: Made in Manchester ‘ provides a fascinating glimpse of the unique properties of the one-atom thick material, first isolated at the University in 2004.

Watch the film:

Funded by the University, Manchester City Council, MIDAS, and the European Regional Development Fund, the film details the potential of graphene and how it can change peoples’ lives.

Professors Andre Geim and Kostya Novoselov won the Nobel Prize for Physics in 2010 for their ground-breaking experiments with graphene.

The University is building the £61million National Graphene Institute, which will be a world-leading centre of graphene research when it opens in 2015.

Professor Dame Nancy Rothwell, President and Vice-Chancellor of the University, said: “This film allows everyone to share in the sense of genuine excitement about graphene and serves as an excellent starting point to learn about the wonder material.”
