Computer Science takes the lead in the NSS response stakes
07 Feb 2013
In the first week of the National Student Survey 2013, the School of Computer Science has achieved a remarkable 30% response rate from its final year undergraduates.
The School is offering a free bar of chocolate and entry into a prize draw for an iPad Mini and £20 Amazon vouchers to students who print out and hand in the confirmation page after they’ve completed the survey.
Computer Science decided to launch the 2013 survey period with a big bang and announced the incentives in its weekly newsletter for undergraduates last week: they certainly appear to be having the desired effect.
The School’s Director of Undergraduate Studies, Dr Toby Howard, said: "Students are busier than ever and sitting down to fill out surveys is not high on their agenda. Providing a little incentive seemed like a sensible thing to try. We're obviously delighted with the initial response!"
If you want to follow Computer Science’s example, remember that an incentive such as a prize draw is fine as long as it:
- Does not compromise the neutrality of the survey;
and - Is equally available to all eligible students.
If you aren’t sure if the incentive you wish to offer is acceptable, please seek advice from:
