Alan Gilbert Learning Commons to re-open
14 Dec 2012
Extensive works aim for 7 January opening
Remedial works in the Alan Gilbert Learning Commons (AGLC) are now well underway to address the health and safety concerns which arose from the failure of a glass panel in the balustrades surrounding the central atrium.
As the flaw had the potential to affect other areas of the glass balustrades in the building, quite extensive work was necessary, involving the application of safety film to the glass to ensure the highest levels of safety for people using the building in the future.
This work continues to be treated with the highest priority and we are working to re-open the building on Monday 7 January from 9.00am – 5.00pm and begin 24/7 opening from Monday, 14 January.
We will continue to compensate for the loss of the AGLC by extending the hours of the Main Library, which will remain open throughout December and will be open 24/7 from Wednesday, 2 January 2013 until the AGLC is able to establish its full 24/7 opening hours. For more information visit:
Thank you for your continued patience and understanding in this matter. We will continue to provide regular updates and we look forward to welcoming you back into the Alan Gilbert Learning Commons in the New Year.
