13 Dec 2012

The Chancellor Tom Bloxham MBE visited Hong Kong where a celebratory dinner was held for the Hong Kong Foundation for The University of Manchester (HKFUM), founded at the start of this year.

The dinner also marked the receipt of the Foundation’s first donations and allowed delegates to discuss the ways in which we can work together with our alumni to achieve the University’s strategic aims.

HKFUM board members joined Mr Bloxham and senior and notable Hong Kong alumni, including the Honourable Starry Lee Wai-King and Franklin Lam, newly elected members of the Legislative Council and the Executive Council of Hong Kong respectively.

HKFUM is an independent charity registered in Hong Kong, dedicated to the promotion and development of continuing relationships of loyalty amongst our Manchester alumni and friends in Hong Kong and China.

The volunteer board members generously dedicate their time, experience and funding to helping the University raise funds for various scholarship programmes that benefit many students across campus and for vital research programmes that seek answers to some of the biggest issues that face our global community, such as cancer, regenerative medicine and poverty.

HKFUM has already received donations from its board members and other generous Hong Kong-based alumni to support PhD scholarships in the Humanitarian Conflict Response Institute and numerous scholarships for students from Greater Manchester who have graduated from the Manchester Access Programme, as well as undergraduate scholarships for students from China.
