Be one of the first to try new cross-city bus services.
University staff are amongst those getting the first opportunity to try cross-city bus services which are set to revolutionize travel in Manchester city centre over the next few years.
Bus operator First has introduced a new service from North Manchester running directly through the city centre down Oxford Road to the universities and hospitals.
The service, the number 18, also takes in Shudehill Bus Interchange, Victoria train station and Piccadilly Gardens.
First has introduced the service as part of Transport for Greater Manchester's (TFGM) strategy to offer more sustainable travel options in the city, which includes redevelopment of Oxford Road.
University Sustainable Transport Planner Andrew Hough welcomed the new service saying: “We actively encourage staff and students to use public transport to travel to our campus, as part of our Sustainable Travel Plan.
“We fully support this improvement to First’s services. We hope that this service makes journeys easier and more convenient.”
First is offering a number of value for money fares on the cross city service, including a FirstDay ticket at £2.50 and a FirstWeek ticket at £9. These cheaper fares are valid along the full route of First's 17 and 18 services.
A number of other cheaper day and week fares are being offered until January 2013 for customers travelling within the M60 outer ring road boundary or the Oldham Metropolitan Borough Area.
