Team up to make a Green Impact in 2012/13

Sign up by 17 December to the national environmental accreditation scheme with a competitive streak.

Green Impact teams with the President

Green Impact encourages staff and students to lead the way towards achieving positive environmental changes and impacts, by supporting groups of people who want to make a difference, helping them to spread the word and rewarding their efforts.

The scheme plays an important part in supporting the University’s Enabling Strategy 8 - to embed environmental sustainability as a key priority across the full range of our activities.

By joining Green Impact, you’ll become part of a large nationwide scheme which has been developed by the NUS since 2006, with a presence in local authorities, NHS trusts, wider community organizations and more than 50 colleges and universities.

Using a bottom-up approach, the project encourages staff and students to change their working practices and to address the whole sustainability agenda through continuous development.

Each Green Impact team receives a workbook with bronze, silver, gold and platinum criteria to help them create a more sustainable workplace. The criteria are all simple, clear and easy to implement and you receive support to help you achieve your targets.

In the space of four years, the Green Impact presence on campus has grown from 11 teams in 2009/10 to 32 in 2012/13. The teams are distributed across the University as follows:

  • Professional Support Services - 13
  • Medical and Human Sciences - 3
  • Engineering and Physical Sciences - 6
  • Humanities - 6
  • Life Sciences - 3
  • Institutes - 1

In 2011/12, the University’s Green Impact teams reduced energy, waste and water and contributed to financial savings through resource efficiency and energy reduction.

Taking part in a Green Impact team also offers you opportunities to:

  • Achieve and gain recognition at the awards ceremony;
  • Learn about environmental issues and how to save resources and money;
  • Build professional and personal skills;
  • Develop skills in project management and in building and leading a team.
