Free public talk on vibrant debate around China's rise

China's rise is commonly understood as one of the key challenges to current world order. Politicians, scholars and media in the UK debate whether China is best understood as a threat or an opportunity. Within China, the country's expected rise to superpower status is not only seen as a possible future development, but often as the return of China to its rightful place in the world.

What we do not hear as much about is how different voices within China are imagining a future and Chinese world order. In today's China there is a vibrant ongoing debate over what the country’s role in a future world order should be. This talk by Dr Astrid Nordin, hosted by the Confucius Institute, gives an introduction to this debate, some of its central figures and some of the key ideas that are being discussed by Chinese thinkers.
