Bike marking on campus this week
02 Oct 2012
The University offers a Free overt bike marking service for all students and staff
Currently the Police can’t return lost/stolen bikes that they recover to the rightful owners because they’re not on a database to which the Police have access. Many cycles that come into their possession end up going to auction because they can’t trace the owner.
The scheme includes the following:
A unique serial number is ‘etched’ onto the frame in a highly visible location.
The owner/cycle details are recorded and entered onto a University database to enable our security officers to check them.
The relevant information is also entered onto the national property database ‘Immobilise’.
The Police check ‘Immobilise’ when they come into possession of stolen/recovered property.
