Wythenshawe Hospital hosting annual Open Day this Sunday

University Hospital of South Manchester NHS Foundation Trust (UHSM) is opening its doors to showcase Wythenshawe Hospital and to welcome visitors to a free day out aimed at all the family.

The Trust is hosting its annual Open Day on Sunday, 23rd September 2012 from 11am-3pm, followed by the Annual Members Meeting at 3pm onwards. The team are also delighted to be welcoming BBC Radio Manchester’s Eamonn O' Neal and Jimmy Wagg who will be officially opening the event at 11.15am and airing the early part of their radio show live from the Open Day itself.

The event will provide a fantastic opportunity for members of the public to see first-hand how their hospital operates. A giant marquee will be pitched on the hospital’s main entrance car park, and will house 70 stalls manned by Trust staff plus colleagues from other community and health organisations from across the region. This will provide a chance for the public to learn more about UHSM’s numerous departments such as Maternity, Recruitment, Diabetes, Burns, Heart & Lung, Cancer Care, Children’s services and many more.

Activities include behind-the-scenes tours running every hour; the chance to look inside an ambulance and fire engine; and free health advice from Trust experts. The day will also provide fun and entertainment for all the family with performances from various dance troupes, choirs and bands from local schools and the community. A face painter and balloon artist will provide more fun, while all children can receive a free ice-cream and enjoy free fairground rides.  

UHSM’s Chief Executive, Julian Hartley says: “Every year our Open Day proves to be a lot of fun and this year will be no exception. It is a great opportunity for us to show the outstanding work we do here and explain how different departments operate. Most of all, the Open Day has really developed in to a community event where people who live throughout south Manchester and further afield, can come and enjoy some free entertainment, take part in raffles and tombolas, participate in tours of the hospital and the children always love our fairground rides. I really encourage people to come along and take part.”
