Wythenshawe Hospital hosting annual Open Day this Sunday

University Hospital of South Manchester NHS Foundation Trust (UHSM) is holding its annual Open Day for all the family on Sunday 23 September 2012 (11am-3pm).

The Trust is opening its doors to showcase Wythenshawe Hospital and to welcome visitors to a free day out aimed at all the family. BBC Radio Manchester’s Eamonn O' Neal and Jimmy Wagg will be officially opening the event at 11.15am and airing the early part of their radio show live from the Open Day itself.

The event will provide a fantastic opportunity for members of the public to see first-hand how their hospital operates. There will be a chance to learn more about UHSM’s numerous departments such as Maternity, Recruitment, Diabetes, Burns, Heart & Lung, Cancer Care, Children’s services and many more.

Activities will include:

• Behind-the-scenes tours running every hour;
• The chance to look inside an ambulance and fire engine;
• Free health advice from Trust experts.

The day will also provide fun and entertainment for all the family with:

• Performances from various dance troupes, choirs and bands from local schools and the community;
• A face painter and balloon artist on site to provide more fun;
• Free ice-cream and free fairground rides for all children.

UHSM’s Chief Executive, Julian Hartley says: “Every year our Open Day proves to be a lot of fun and this year will be no exception. It is a great opportunity for us to show the outstanding work we do here and explain how different departments operate. Most of all, the Open Day has really developed in to a community event where people who live throughout south Manchester and further afield, can come and enjoy some free entertainment, take part in raffles and tombolas, participate in tours of the hospital and the children always love our fairground rides. I really encourage people to come along and take part.”
