New access control readers for University buildings
16 Aug 2012
Now that new staff cards have been distributed across the University, Estates and Facilities is replacing magnetic stripe card readers with new readers that are easier to use.
The new type of readers - called proximity readers - are activated when you hold your staff card close to them, so you'll no longer need to swipe your card to access a building or area.

How to use a proximity reader
Once the installation has been completed in your building or area, you will simply need to hold your card approximately 1cm away from the new style reader. You can present the front or back of the card to the reader and you don't even need to take it out of your wallet or purse. If the reader recognises your card, the light on the reader will turn green and the door will be open.
If you are unable to access a building or area with your card, please contact:
