Practice fire evacuations for 2012
13 Aug 2012
The University Fire Training & Evacuation Coordinator will be contacting safety representatives in each building to arrange evacuation practices throughout September-November 2012.
The practices are your chance to refresh your current knowledge of your evacuation routes.
They also give first year undergraduate students an opportunity to learn about our procedures and ensure they are able to exit our buildings safely in the event of a real situation.
These practices also allow us to assess our evacuation procedures and fire marshal coverage across the campus to ensure everything runs smoothly should a real fire ever occur.
Tips for a successful evacuation:
- Know your building and your closest fire exits – not just the main entrance!
- Show leadership by always responding promptly to the fire alarm and leading any groups outside to safety outside;
- Remember to move far away from the building once you are outside: locate and meet at your designated Assembly Points.
