Images of Research Photography Competition

28 Aug 2012

Snap! Calling all researchers! Following last year's success, the Images of Research competition is back for 2012 and we invite the research community at The University of Manchester to take part.

Fresh Light on the Past (Dr Lindy Crewe) - overall winner in 2011

Using a single inspiring photographic image and short description can you illustrate your research to the general public? Can you capture their interest and curiosity? Can your image show how your research is making a difference – how it affects the wider world and benefits society?

The image can be anything that captures attention but must be related to your research. Each submission must include an interesting title and a 150 word abstract about the research. (Hint: ensure your abstract uses plain English and is jargon-free.)

The public will decide!

In the lead-up to the Manchester Science Festival, shortlisted entries will be exhibited at the John Rylands Library Deansgate and online. The general public will be invited to vote for the best image and associated abstract.

Prizes

  • Public vote: £200 Amazon voucher
  • First prize: £150 Amazon vouchers
  • Runners up: £100 Amazon vouchers
  • Highly commended: £50 Amazon voucher

Who can enter?

Open to academics, research fellows, postdoctoral research associates, postgraduate research students and research technical support staff including experimental officers across all disciplines at The University of Manchester.

Submission details
