Honour for renowned emergency medic

The first elected President of the College of Emergency Medicine has been awarded the Outstanding Alumni Award from the Faculty of Medical and Human Sciences.

Former University of Manchester graduate Dr John Heyworth, who served as the College’s President from 2008 to 2011, is Lead Consultant in the Emergency Department at Southampton General Hospital, which is recognised as one of the leading departments in the UK with regard to clinical practice, education, training and research.

He is also medical officer at the Glastonbury music festival and has made numerous appearances in national media raising profile and awareness of emergency medicine, as well as author and editor of several publications.
