Revealing the Secrets of Science

The University of Manchester is throwing open its doors on Saturday 30th June so local people can take a unique peek into the weird and wonderful world of Life Sciences.

From creepy crawlies to robots, microbes to animal eating plants there’s lots of fantastic things to see and do in the laboratories. There will be tours and talks throughout the event and the Faculty’s scientists will be on hand to answer questions. 

The first ever open day last year attracted more than 700 local people from all walks of life.

The Faculty of Life Sciences is hoping this year even more people will take the chance to see where some of the world’s greatest mysteries are being solved.

As well as viewing life through million pound microscopes, visitors will also be able to create amazing paintings with maggots, meet live amphibians used to study the healing process and see robots in action in the laboratories.

Professor Matthew Cobb said: “We hope even more people will take this rare chance to see ground breaking research close at hand and ask our scientists about their work.”

The Open Day takes place on Saturday June 30 from 11am – 3pm in the Michael Smith Building, off Dover Street, at the heart of the University campus. Everyone is welcome to this free event and there is no need to book.
