Maths MAGIC

15 Jun 2012

Large multi-partner grant to offer valuable PhD training for five years.

The MAGIC Legal Agreement, a unique document involving a consortium of 19 universities, was finally completed and signed in March after nine months of finalising details.

Professor Jitesh Gajjar, Director of MAGIC (Mathematics Access Grid Instruction and Collaboration), said "The legal agreement provides a unique opportunity for collaboration between a number of institutions. Each MAGIC partner is now contracted to fund and offer the MAGIC service, using Access Grid video-conferencing technology to provide postgraduate Mathematics lectures that can be accessed by students at any member institution."

The MAGIC consortium began in 2006, following an initiative by EPSRC to establish taught course centres for the training of PhD students in Mathematics, and is now by far the largest of six such centres. The MAGIC Legal Agreement will ensure the continuation of MAGIC's excellent work and the significant funding contributions from all partners will enable the project to become self-sustaining until 2016.
