Faculty of Life Sciences opens its doors to the public
26 Jun 2012
Community Open Day is on Saturday 30 June in the Michael Smith Building.
The Michael Smith Building will be open to the local community in a fun and family friendly event that showcases the research and the facilities of the Faculty.
Visitors can come on a tour of our laboratories, see our robots and look through our million pound microscopes. Our scientists will be there to talk about their research on heart defects, Alzheimer’s disease, biofuel development and much more.
Kids (and adults!) can have a go at our interactive activities which include:
- Painting with maggots;
- Making edible cells out of cookies;
- Meeting live amphibians;
- Learning how leeches are used in medicine;
- Finding out how the heart works.
There is a craft tent for younger visitors which includes face painting and creepy-crawly crafts.
