New object lessons: Curating for 2012 and beyond
Specially devised for museum professionals and creative practitioners, this brand new edition of the highly popular and thought-provoking Curating for 2012 will explore links between everyday objects and museum collections and will focus on themes relevant to both the Cultural Olympiad and the forthcoming centenary commemoration of WW1. The starting point of this exciting curatorial journey will be a watch, a pack of cornflakes and a bottle of coca cola. This programme will provide an ideal platform to reflect on the importance of shelf-learning at a professional level.
Curating for 2012 was created in 2008 by a local historian and museum consultant, Dominique Tessier.
Please note if you wish to attend this session you will need to commit to participating in a short but painless NIACE evaluation and you need to be operating/working in the cultural sector. Part of Adult Learners Week.

After Hours – secret gardens in the city
For our Museums at Night After Hours, we're inviting you to our tranquil secret gardens in the city. Play croquet on our allotment with a glass of Pimms, go into our secret gothic tower to see the treasures of our herbarium and discover how nature can make you feel happy. Wander through the meadows of Nature Discovery or make your own herbal pampering potion in Living Worlds.
After Hours are evening social events at The Manchester Museum where you encounter the unexpected. Artists, scientists, filmmakers, writers and musicians animate our collections in special one-off performances.
