BII Symposium: Quantitative Imaging in Dementia
01 May 2012
Wednesday 23 May 2012 (1pm, with lunch from 12.30pm) in Rooms 306a and 306b, Ground floor, Jean MacFarlane Building.
Speakers
- Karl Herholz (The University of Manchester)
- Steve Williams (The University of Manchester)
- Peter Nestor (University of Cambridge)
- Sebastien Ourselin (Centre for Medical Image Computing, UCL)
Venue
This symposium draws together local and national expertise on imaging of dementia. Dementia was recently highlighted by David Cameron as ‘a quiet crisis’ for which the ‘level of diagnosis, understanding and awareness of dementia is shockingly low’.
Imaging can play an important role, both in early diagnosis and in understanding the underlying brain mechanisms. The speakers will present information on how MRI and PET can be used to see changes in the gross structure, microstructure and metabolism of the brain in dementia.
The symposium will include the following talks:
- "Diffusion Imaging in AD and FTD" (Peter Nestor)
- "Quantitative image analysis to measure disease progression in AD" (Sebastien Ourselin)
- "The relation between atrophy, synaptic function, and amyloid deposition in Alzheimer's Disease" (Karl Herholz)
- "Metabolomic Biomarkers of Alzheimer’s Disease: Investigation by Magnetic Resonance Spectroscopy of a Transgenic Mouse Model" (Steve Williams)
