Video Conferencing Service - free to use and fully supported

Tired of travelling to meetings? Want to free up more working time? Keen to do your bit for the environment?
Then why not make use of the University’s high quality video conferencing suites?
The suites can be used by staff and students for a variety of meeting types, are free to use and fully supported by Media Services.
There are three suites distributed across campus as follows:
South Campus
- Humanities Bridgeford Street
- Roscoe Building
North Campus
- Renold Building
If you wish to use the service, you will need to give the technical support staff contact details for the team at the other end of the conference. They will then make contact and take care of all the connection arrangements.
The facilities are already well used and usage is increasing. Please support this trend by making your colleagues and students aware of the service, and consider using video conferencing in your own work.
One of many satisfied users is Dr John Broderick from the Tyndall Centre, who said:
“I was recently asked to give evidence to a Welsh Assembly committee but would only be required for half an hour. Rather than spend a whole day travelling, I used the videoconferencing suite in the Renold Building. "
"The quality of the line was perfect and the technical support was excellent so I literally just turned up to speak and didn’t worry about anything else. I’ll definitely use this facility again in future.”
Sustainability
Video conferencing is obviously useful for a variety of practical reasons but, in many cases, it also reduces the need to travel.
The University is currently estimating its environmental impact from so called Scope 3 or indirect emissions, into which category business travel falls. Current estimates suggest around 12,000 tonnes a year of CO2 are emitted from staff business travel and so use of video conferencing supports the desire to reduce the environmental and financial impact of University related travel.
