“Flashback” Trojan – protect your Mac!
A large number of Apple Mac computers on campus (mainly within halls of residence) have been found to be infected with the “Flashback” Trojan.
To reduce the risk of infections, you should ensure your computer’s operating system is kept up to date. For advice on how to keep your Apple Mac automatically updated, see the Knowledge Base article:
Anti virus software should also be installed on your Apple Mac. This will enable you to check whether you have been infected and offer future protection. Information on how to install the Sophos Antivirus software for Mac, can be found within the Knowledge Base article:
The latter Knowledge Base article also contains information on how to access the Apple Flashback malware removal tool, which can be used to remove this specific Trojan, should you find that your Mac is infected.
Note: If you have a University owned Apple Mac, please contact the Service Desk to arrange for the appropriate Anti virus software to be installed for you.
