Manchester University sociologist becomes Australian Government advisor

A University of Manchester Sociologist has been appointed as an international advisor to the Australian Government.

Professor Fiona Devine, whon is Head of The school  of Sopcial Sciences, will be a member of the education and human society committee for The Australian Research Council, the statutory authority within the Australian Government's Industry, Innovation, Science, Research and Tertiary Education portfolio.

She is one of 147 distinguished researchers to assess and report on the quality of research in Australia as part of the 2012 Excellence in Research for Australia evaluations.

Acknowledging the 600 plus nominations received by the ARC for the 2012 Committees, ARC Chief Executive Officer Professor Margaret Sheil said she was delighted with the response to the call for nominations

Professor Sheil added:”These researchers are experts in their field and in research evaluation, and have been selected from a pool of more than 600 national and international researchers”
