On 27 January, the world marks Holocaust Memorial Day and the theme for 2012, set by the Holocaust Memorial Day Trust, is Speak Up, Speak Out.
Manchester City Council marks Holocaust Memorial Day 2012 by once again working with UK Jewish Film on screening a Holocaust related film for an invited audience of representatives from Manchester high schools and community groups.
Throughout the month of January, Manchester will play host to a number of Holocaust related events, giving many opportunities to learn lessons from the Holocaust, Nazi persecution and subsequent genocides.
Chinese New Year Celebrations
29 January 2012 (11am - 7pm)
Celebrate the Year of the Dragon with one of the largest annual events in Manchester city centre.
Head down to Chinatown and Albert Square to browse the stalls, enjoy the performances and marvel at the spectacular fireworks display. Last year, over 65,000 people for came to the celebrations making it the biggest Chinese festival in the North - 2012 is set to be even bigger and better with Manchester's high pole lion dance performance promising to be the most spectacular in the UK so far!
