Teenage Cancer Trust – Touch Card & The Living Room event

A special aspect of the Touch Card offer for this time of year is encouraging those that buy the card to make a voluntary donation to Teenage Cancer Trust. 

  • Every day in the UK, six young people aged 13 to 24 are told they have cancer. That’s about 2,100 young people a year.
  • Cancer is the number one cause of non-accidental death in young adults in the UK.
  • Incidence rates are now higher in 13 to 24 year-olds than in children, yet survival rates for this age group have not improved as much.
  • Nearly three-quarters of British teenagers and young adults who develop cancer now survive cancer. The greatest increase in survival rates is for leukaemia, which has risen by over 20% over the last 20 years. But survival rates for brain tumours, bone cancers and soft tissue cancers have not changed much since the 1980s.
  • Young people get some of the most aggressive cancers. But because only 0.5% of all cancers occur in young people, they are often misdiagnosed initially. This decreases their chances of survival and can mean they are excluded from clinical trials.

Teenage Cancer Trust has created specialist units that aren’t like ordinary cancer wards. Everything about them has been designed to give teenagers the very best chance of a positive outcome. Within Manchester there is a Teenage Cancer Trust unit at the Christie Hospital.

In addition to this promotion Dr Kate Vaughan, the Programme Manager for Teenage Cancer Trust from School of Cancer and Enabling Sciences based at The Christie has organised an evening of glitz and glamour at The Living Room on Deansgate, Manchester on 23 November at 7.30pm.

Tickets cost £15 per person which includes a glass of prosecco and canapés on arrival. £5 from the sale of each ticket will go to the Teenage Cancer Trust.
