Research Staff Association
21 Sep 2011
Information about next meeting on 22 September
The University of Manchester’s Research Staff Association invites research staff from all Faculties to join us and find out how the Manchester RSA can help you with your research career and other aspects of research life.
Come along to our monthly meetings during lunch hours – the next one is taking place on Thursday 22 September between 12-1pm, in room G.33 in the Arthur Lewis Building. We also have a social event on 13 October in SandBar.
We particularly encourage new research staff to come along, as this is a great opportunity to get a speedy induction to research life here at the University, by meeting with other researchers and benefiting from their expertise and knowledge.
The Manchester RSA is run by a group of researchers from different Faculties and was launched in April at the University’s annual Research Staff Conference. Since then we have set up a web page and a blog to increase our visibility at the University and an email group to communicate with interested research staff.
The RSA provides a forum for researchers to share their ideas and concerns about issues related to the working and social life of researchers.
Most members of research staff are employed on fixed-term contracts which means that our needs are often different from other academics at the University.
While some departments have a good provision for research staff, others may provide less dedicated support. It is common for researchers to move from one project to another, changing departments and institutions and career guidance can be very important in this high mobility environment.
Meeting with other researchers across the University can help us to identify the common problems we as researchers face and to find avenues to meet these challenges.
If you want more information about the RSA email rsa@manchester.ac.uk to be included in the RSA email group, or simply pop in to any of our meetings or social gatherings.
