Festival of visual art from Asia
21 Sep 2011
Asia Triennial Manchester 11 at the John Rylands Library, Deansgate
The Asia Triennial Manchester 11 is a festival of current contemporary visual art from Asia running from 1 October until 27 November.
As part of the festival the John Rylands Library has commissioned Indian artist N.S. Harsha to create a fascinating series of garlands which reflect his thoughts and observations of how people spend their time in the Library, and the process of accessing our collections.
Visitors to the Library on Deansgate can borrow the garlands to wear during their visit. Alongside this we have our Kashmir to Kandy exhibition running until Sunday, 30 October, which features works of classical literature such as the Mahãbhãrata, ornate palm-leaf manuscripts from Burma and Sri Lanka, revealing letters from Nehru and Jinnah - the founding fathers of India and Pakistan - and material exploring links between South Asia and Manchester.
