Manchester Museum allotment on our doorstep
24 Jun 2011
The middle of the University campus might seem a strange place to find an allotment, but one has been created right outside the entrance to The Manchester Museum, and it's open to all until November.
The allotment has been made by volunteers, visitors, community groups, a children's centre, University scientists and students and Museum staff.
While some of these people know lots about gardening, many others are complete beginners.
As well as growing food, the project helps to explore some of the Museum’s collections and unearth all sorts of extraordinary related objects – from a 17th century watering can and dried pea plants found on the banks of the River Mersey, to ancient Egyptian farming tools and a wide range of garden insects.
It’s open until November, so why not pop along and take a look? Hopefully a bit of sunshine and some of that famous Manchester rain will help the crops to grow!
