Upgrades to two important software applications

New versions of SPSS 19 for Windows and SPSS Modeler (aka Clementine) now available from the Electronic Software Delivery website

Two commonly used software packages have new versions available from the University’s Electronic Software Delivery System:

  1. SPSS 19 for Windows
  2. SPSS Modeler (aka Clementine)

1.       SPSS 19 for Windows

IBM SPSS Statistics is a comprehensive, easy-to-use set of data and predictive analytics tools for business users, analysts and statistical programmers. It is used and taught across all Faculties by academics and researchers.

What is changing?

SPSS v19 is being added to the software available on the ESD. The current version of SPSS on staff and student managed desktops is version 16. This standard will remain for the next academic year for students. SPSS 19 will not be released onto the student desktop until September 2012. 

Additional information

Versions 16 and 19 can happily co-exist on a PC. SPSS dataset (.sav) and SPSS syntax files (.sps) files are both forward and backward compatible between versions. However, SPSS output files (.spo or .spv) are generally forwards but not backward compatible. SPSS 19 for mac is already available on the ESD. Version 16 of SPSS will still be available on the ESD for downloads by students.

2.       SPSS Modeler v13 (aka PASW Modeler, or Clementine)

SPSS Modeler is the rebranded version of Clementine. It is used by academics across the University for data modelling and discovering patterns and trends in data.

What is changing?

If you access Clementine from a managed desktop or from a student PC cluster, you have already been upgraded to SPSS Modeler v13. Modeler is being added to the ESD.

If you access an older version of SPSS or Clementine from an unmanaged desktop or your own computer, you will need to upgrade to the latest version. You can download and install them all from the University’s:
