The Eyjafjallajokull eruption one year on: What did we learn?

Professor Geraint Vaughan, Centre for Atmospheric Science, The University of Manchester

The North-West Royal Meteorological Society welcomes Professor Geraint Vaughan to a meeting to discuss the implications of the Eyjafjallajokull eruption, which disrupted air traffic in Europe in April and May 2010.

Professor Vaughan will present a synopsis of this event, highlighting why we were so badly affected by a very modest eruption, and why the distribution of volcanic ash is so hard to forecast accurately. Lastly, he will consider what could possibly happen in a future event.

The presentation will take place in Lecture Theatre JD T0.03, John Dalton Building, Manchester Metropolitan University (MMU).

Attendees are invited for refreshments at 5.40pm, with the presentation commencing at 6pm. Time for questions will also be set aside.
