Tabley Friends go Baroque

A very special evening of baroque music in the beautiful Gallery of Tabley House on Thursday 26 May (7.30pm)

The Telemann Baroque Ensemble will play a wonderful selection of music from composers such as Vivaldi, Handel and Telemann. Their leader is Peter Collier, an Oxford tutor of Baroque music, who also has a collection of amusing anecdotes of the period.

For this special occasion, Tabley House will have their precious sets of virginals specially prepared and tuned for the concert. One instrument is English, dating to 1671, the other is Italian and nearly a century older, made in 1595.

This will be the first time that classic baroque music has been played in the great gallery since the last member of the Leicester and de Tabley families died and Tabley Friends are rather hoping that a few ghosts may turn up to hear their favourite music being played after so long!

Less supernaturally, audience members are promised a glass of wine and some canapés in the interval. This should all add to the occasion, particularly if the good weather continues and they can go out on to the terrace.
