Students get virtual treat from comic book supremo
21 Mar 2011
One of the world’s most renowned comic book writers and graphic novelists is to give a virtual lecture to University of Manchester students on Monday (21 march)
Neil Gaiman, creator of DC Comics’ Sandman series as well as numerous comic books, graphic novels and screenplays, will talk to creative writing MA students from the United States via Skype.
Anyone can come along to the Samuel Alexander Arts Lecture to hear Gaiman discuss his work - including the Hugo-award winning issue of The Sandman: 'A Midsummer Night's Dream'.
One of the few graphic novels to make the New York Times Best Seller list, The Sandman also made the Entertainment Weekly's 100 best reads.
Gaiman is currently writing an episode of the science fiction series Doctor Who, which will be broadcast in 2011.
Lecturer and science fiction author Geoff Ryman teaches the Science Fiction section of the MA course.
He said: “Neil Gaiman has been immensely important to the development of the graphic novel and is a towering figure in science fiction.
“I’m delighted our students and his fans will be able to hear from him about his work.”
