Saturday 19 March / 11am-4pm
Big Saturday: The Body Experience

A day of hands-on activities about the body’s organs and functions. Part of National Science and Engineering Week:

  • 11am-4pm: Human body tour
    Come on a tour of the human body with scientists from the Faculty of Life Sciences and School of Computer Science at The University of Manchester. Collect your “passport” and travel around the body. Learn how the brain communicates with all the different organs in your body and how it controls your senses. See how the heart works and how your lungs help you breathe. Ever wondered what your liver and kidneys do? Come and find out! Travel through your gut and learn about the bugs that can infect it!  Find out how your body heals wounds and what happens to your organs when we have diseases. Make your own mark and help us make a gigantic picture of the human body in our ‘Body Rangoli’.

Young curators exhibition

Come and see what happens when you let a group of teenagers loose at The Manchester Museum! Our team of young curators have designed their own exhibition, using Museum and hand made objects. Come and look, complete activities and chat to our young museum workers.

Confucius Institute China talk: Travel within China

As Westerners have begun to interact with a globalizing China, we are becoming more curious about what the country is really like. To help demystify one of the most fascinating and ancient societies in the world The Confucius Institute at The University of Manchester presents a programme of monthly public talks on China in partnership with The Manchester Museum. Part of our China: Journey to the East exhibition.

Showcase lecture: The Artificial Ape: Technology, Evolution and Humanity
With Dr Tim Taylor (University of Bradford)

Tim Taylor will be presenting some of the ideas put forward in his recent book 'The Artificial Ape' in which he argues for the importance of material culture in shaping human evolution.
