Women in IT event
15 Mar 2011
On Friday 25 March (12-2pm) in 3.204 University Place
You are invited to the University of Manchester’s next Women in IT Group. The group is open to all staff and postgraduates at the University and aims to:
- provide a networking forum for women at all grades working in IT across the University
- provide careers support, advice and mentoring for women seeking careers in IT
- raise awareness of the range of roles in IT within the University
As well as a buffet lunch and the opportunity to meet and mingle with colleagues from around the University, the next event features talks from several speakers who are interested in raising awareness of the many roles in IT for women:
- Richard Bishop, Head of Business and Enterprise and Key Stage Four Achievement coordinator, Cedar Mount High School
Richard will talk to the group about how girls in secondary education engage with technology and consider careers in IT.
- Professor Carole Goble, School of Computer Science, The University of Manchester
Professor Goble will provide us some insights into her own career path and will comment on the uptake of female students in the School of Computer Science.
- Susan Palmer, Project Manager, Kinetic Solutions
Having previously worked at Lancaster University, Susan now works for a company that provides software solutions to universities for conferencing and accommodation. Susan will talk to the group about her route into her current role and her career experiences
